IKONOS :: Commercial satellite service
Satellite images of Earth are commercially available in the sharp detail of one-meter resolution, such as this image of a town near desert in the Middle East (319K download). That means that objects larger than one meter (about three feet) across can be seen. The satellite can also be set for multispectral imaging such as this snap of a volcano near San Luis, Argentina (348K download). It can also back off at 25m and take pictures that can be used for maping and monitoring of fires or river flows. Wednesday, June 06, 2001
