New project - Messaged Helsinki Project Messaged Helsinki is all about commenting on popular issues and leaving traces of the communication around the city. The idea would be to send an SMS message on current issues (for now we can say the US military action) and the receiver writes down the message wherever they are. If they're outside they could write the message on the road with chalk, or leave a note on a piece of paper if they're in a cafe etc... so something like this. 9.10.01
Messaged Helsinki - War and Peace?
Any interest in commenting the current war with messages across town? Military action raises questions and thoughts - could we try to communicate those feelings? Chalk, autumn It is raining. It is autumn. In autumn it rains often. Taking temporary to the max. Re: Stewart Brand We become amnesiacs to protect ourselves from overload. Future anthropolgists will construct mini versions of us from DNA samples and watch 'us' live in a terrarium. 8.10.01

"We lose short-term memory, period." email for historians - rerun Print your email? On a daily basis? Weekly print what feels significant? A month is already too much to print? Is it a waste of paper? Cd? Cd. Sorry, I guess we already talked about this and [d] (?) said CD. Though it isn't my solution. I don't have a solution. smile, you got sms sounds nice. could we draw a map of our movements in the city stating where we've walked and what we've thought, done, communicated? chalk is a wonderful idea.

"There has never been a time of such drastic and irretrievable information loss. We've turned into a total amnesiac. We do short-term memory, period. Future anthropologists will find our pottery but not our email." (Stewart Brand, Whole Earth Catologue) We've been discussing the theme of "Gallery Helsinki". It'd be interesting to create some statements around town about the issue of how we communicate in the city and if we can leave a few temporary traces behind. These could be in the form of some kind of reaction: like if we receive a text message of good news, then we chalk a ":)" on the street. We can discuss more to get the options out, but the results might be fun to experiment with. |
