re: paper.
For me newspapers are very clearly the primary information source. Television compliments the need for instant message news. I can imagine a mobile solution complementing that. Newspapers will remain an essential information source, because everything else is just headlines without depth. Except the internet, but online articles rarely exist without a newspaper to provide the information and writing (and images) on their websites. - The Guardian has been my surefire favourite of late. All media complement each other. Do they do so effectively is an other matter. And how effectively should they complement each other? Should everyone choose their own medium or simply learn to mix depending on their needs and circumstances? Television and radio took quite some time develop into a credible complimentary information source. re: more paper Back to what you were really talking about - There was an article recently in the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, that research shows that IT-technology has in fact increased the use of paper. Printing w/o hassle The wired-article's view that for most people printing is hassleless does not compute with me. I thought printing always involves problems, fortunately ones that are easily overcome. My printer runs out of ink so quickly, at work I never have problems with the printer, but others do and I help them.
paper.
leaving notes is easy enough with a pen and paper, but its a hassle copying bulk information from digital to paper form. See this on mobile printing an interesting article: I think that advances in technology won't do away with paper completely, it'll just find another form to fit in. Similar to newspapers when radio and then television were introduced... we still buy newspapers, but use it as a complimentary information source. |
