things getting too complex?
The other problem is the complexity of products. Whether its a car, mobile phone, house, furniture - they're becoming incredibly complex products that need a team to work them out. Are we packing too much into products? [... my phone's display is broken] 26.2.02

why do we have to keep on saying, “they don’t make them the way they use to”? it bugs me - to no end - to see a next generation of product as a leap backwards!!! evolution, progress, improvement, seem to take a back seat in new product development…[half baked ideas trying to meet deadlines]… instinctively we expect improvement, refinement and certain maturity in new products. yet it seems as though we are constantly cheated by products that are nor reliable or easier to use. there is only one rule: put 'target="_blank"' in your links! otherwise all news is good news. this forum is meant for designers - indu designers in particular - to speak their minds, and if hockey is on their mind, so be it! Alen's book, The Art of Looking Sideways, is exactly about designers looking beyond their immediate interests for inspiration, and I think we're doing a good job here at idgrid of providing this 'view beyond the obvious'. |
