:: palm pilot cpr
model: pilot 5000 manufactured by : us robotics palm computing year of manufacturing: 1996 made in Singapore ram: 500 k (whooau) diagnostic: half dead screen chances of survival: none ( i killed two before with similar tactics) i had problems with my palm earlier on last year. so i ditched the thing into one of my drawers. now that I had two AAA lying around I decided to try and revive the beast. problem: screen did not respond to touch and it would deprogram quickly from the initial settings - leaving the top menu open and nothing more than the 4 bottom function buttons to work with. dam. all pounding and slamming against hard surfaces did not produce any results so i decided to open it up. another problem: the two screws that secure the back to face plate did not want to come off. so i had no choice than to rip the plastic and extract them with a electrical plyers. it worked. got inside - now... - so I took out all the unnecessary pieces. - ripped the extra palm siding – too victorian for me - unplugged the screen cable tab - ripping two more tabs that are supposed to secure it in place. - for about 10 minutes I struggled to clip the cable back in - it's a difficult maneuver. - applied tape over the connection. sure as hell that cable won't move. - than I taped the face plate on. hit the power button and "voila" it werks. - added more tape. more tape. - now I can tap into the screen and works proper for both graffiti and selection of items. i enjoy now a working palm pilot in a stylish case - thanks to [v] for the case. plus - it weights - less :). talk about minimal. now, this is recycling. here you can see the pics [1] [2] [3] [4] |
